Malayali in London ~ Part-31

Chapter -7:

...Snowfall and Spring Dance...

(March, a week before the spring dance.)

I walk down the corridors of my college campus. I’m walking to my next class when I crash into someone. Sawyer! “Indrakshi! What’re you doing here?” he asks. I give him a look, “what do you think I’m doing? I was headed for class and I’m lost and late, is the any shortcut to get to Professor Sterling’s class?” He gives me a few directions and I wave Sawyer goodbye as I walk to my next class.

Jennie Stacy is seated right next to me, which is a little strange if I can be honest. “Hey,” she whispers in the middle of the lecture, “you going to the spring dance next weekend?” I nod. “Nice, with whom?” I tell her that I’m going with Sawyer. She smirks and continues, “Sawyer Everly?” I nod, not knowing what to say and she continues,  “Lucky guy. You know, I’m pretty up to date with the gossip floating around campus, and from what I’ve heard, there are quite a few guys who’d want to ask you out. You gained quite a lot of popularity for standing up to Charlotte and other bullies, and boys love a confident girl, not to mention that you’re the most beautiful girl in our year. Many actually thought that Theo might ask you to the dance because he’s so close to you and it seems pretty obvious that he likes you, but anyway, tell me exactly how Sawyer Everly was able to ask you to be his date to the dance.” I take a second to soak in what Jennie just said. Me? Popular? The most beautiful girl of our year? Seriously, she must be joking. And there’s no way Theo likes me, we’re best friends, and he knows I’m dating Sawyer. It’s probably a misconception but never mind. I told Jennie that I’ve been dating Sawyer for the past two months which makes it pretty obvious that I’d be going with him and she said, “Wow, he really is the lucky guy. Anyway, you know I know a lot about the gossip that goes ‘round here, and plenty is floating ‘round about you. I could keep you informed if we are friends, I’d also find it to be an honour to be friends with the most beautiful girl around. And, if you’d want it, I could also be your bestie.” I smile and say, “Of course, you can be my friend, Jennie, best friend if you want to, you don’t need an excuse for that.” She smiles and says, “Great, see you at lunch! I hope I can join your circle.” Her statement makes me slightly laugh, “I can’t wait to introduce you to them.”

It's after two more classes it’s finally time for lunch. Jennie was quite easy to find, really. We walk up to the table where I usually sit with Sawyer and Theo, “hey guys, this is Jennie, she’s going to be the newest member of our little group and you have little to no choice but to welcome her,” I say as I introduce her to them, Theo is eying me for bringing her here, I know her asked her out once and she rejected but still, that doesn’t stop her from being my friend. I make a face towards him letting him know that she’s going to stay and he gives in. He shoots her an awkward smile and she smiles back as if she was never asked out by him. We all sit down and have lunch, Jennie is a bundle of joy and gets along with everyone from the very start of the conversation. We have the most fun we’ve ever had at lunch. It is so much fun that I even find myself socializing more than I normally do. It’s sort of a bummer when we have to leave for our classes. The rest of the day pulls by just fine. Jennie takes my number and I walk home, alone. I dropped a class, history of Language and Literature, so I left about forty minutes before Theo. I decided to pay my father a visit to the hospital today.
