Chapter -7:
...Snowfall and Spring Dance...
It’s dark and I’m standing in front
of our driveway when they finally arrive. Sawyer’s driving and Theo is sitting
in the front seat. I can’t see what either of them is wearing when I walk up to
the car’s backseat where Jennie is sitting. “Wow! I love your outfit!” Jennie
says, when I open the gate the light inside turns on. “Thanks,” I say as I sit
down. “Your mother has taste, I know that green is your favourite colour but
red and white look amazing on you! And I love that choker and those earrings,”
Jennie says after I sit down and Sawyer starts driving. I had also borrowed
some of my mother’s jewellery, she had made them herself when she was my age. And Jennie’s right you know, my mother has
taste. “Thanks and you look amazing, too. And looks like you did manage to match
outfits with a saree,” I say looking at her long white one-shoulder dress with
golden borders and prints. She smiles and says, “I have a thing for fashion.” I
laugh slightly and ask her who is she going to the dance with since she refused
to tell me earlier. She said that it was a surprise and she’ll tell me on the
day of the dance. “Well, I guess I could tell you now,” she says and looks at
Theo, who looks like he could throw up right now. I get the hint, “Really?”
Jennie smiles and says, “Well, yes! We’re double dating!” She claps her hands
together. I give Theo an encouraging look, knowing that he had asked Jennie out
before this has to be good news for him. But it doesn’t seem like that at all. Theo’s
expression is sort of disappointing. He looks up to see the confusion on my
face and smiles, “Jennie asked if I’m still interested and would like to go to
the dance with her. You know about that, right? So I agreed.” I smile,
happy for the two. I turn to Jennie, “Did you ask him because you were
interested or just wanted to double date?” Jennie looks away from me for a
second, hiding the embarrassment from her face. After she successfully masks it
she turns to me and answers my question, “Both.” We all laugh. About fifteen
minutes later, we arrived at the hall. Sawyer parked under the light and we got
out. After we stepped out, I noticed that Jennie made Sawyer and Theo wear
matching tuxedos as well. Theo’s is a navy blue while Sawyer’s is a very dark
green. Green. My favourite colour. He walks over and stretches his arm
out, “May I?” I smile and stroke my thumb over his blazer, “you remembered.” He
raises an eyebrow, “Remember what?” I know that he’s just playing dumb but I
play along, “That green is my favourite colour.” He clasps his hand around mine
and says, “Of course I did.” He gives me a kiss on the cheek. I take his arm
and we walk inside.
The dance was fun. Sort of. We didn’t
do much, really. But about forty-five minutes after we came, Sawyer held out
his hands and said, “Want to dance?” I laugh and take his hand. Jennie pulls
Theo onto the dancefloor after us. We laughed and danced for quite a while. We had the time of our
lives. My favourite part of the night was when Sawyer grabbed my hand and
twirled me around. My mother’s sarree had flared in a beautiful circle and it
was amazing, after the twirl Sawyer pulled me closed and put his forehead
against mine and that moment was my favourite. I’m going to put it against all
the other sweet things he’s done and remember this night forever.
We get in the car after two hours of
having fun at the dance. I get into the front seat this time. Sawyer gives me a
soft kiss on the cheek before backing out. Jennie snuggles with Theo on the back and I
give them both a smile before I face the front again. Sawyer takes my hand and
holds it the entire way home. Yeah. It was the best night ever.
