Chapter -6:
...Indrakshi's Birthday...
I’ve always found numbers divisible by three interesting. I don’t why but they’re pleasing to me. That’s a reason why I like the date of my birthday so much. Twenty-one divided by three is seven. Speaking of my birthday, my brother woke me up at two in the morning, just to wish me happy birthday and I, half asleep, just told him that he was two hours late. I definitely didn’t want him waking up at two. He’s one of those people who can’t function throughout the day if they’ve had even a minute less than eight hours of sleep.
Anyway, I went back to sleep after my
brother’s 2AM invasion of my room. I woke up at eight and went down for
breakfast after having a shower. I’m the kind of person who takes a shower
before breakfast no matter what the weather is. My brother finds that annoying.
Dad wished me the moment I set foot in the living room and mother brought my
breakfast to me. I usually have to sit at the dining table to have breakfast
and bring it there from the kitchen myself, but my birthday is an exception.
Mum kissed me on the side of my head and said, “Happy birthday sweetheart,” in Malayali.
I put ‘Pink Panther’ on the TV and take a bite of my breakfast, it’s idli with
sambar (a south Indian dish and curry). I’m pretty old-fashioned when it comes
to cartoons, as you can see that I’m still watching Pink Panther. I watch TV
while having breakfast only on my birthday. I know, it may not seem like
something special, but it means a lot to me. It reminds me of my time growing
up in Kerala now that I’m here in London, I already miss stargazing at the
beach on my birthday. Too bad I can’t do that here.
After breakfast and go up to my room
and get ready. I had planned to spend my morning at the library so, that’s
where I’m headed. I put on my hoodie and grab my phone. I walk to the library,
which isn’t too far from my house, and get inside. I grab a book and sit down
at an empty table, An hour later, I look at my phone to find three text
messages; one from Twyla, the other from Theo and the last from Sawyer. Twyla’s
message is from about ten hours ago, it’s a little above ten in the morning so
she probably sent it at midnight.
Twyla: Hey! Happy birthday, gurl! See you at your place at eight tonight,
Theo and your brother have something plabned. Happy birthday once again!
She sent plenty of heart emojis after
that. I smile at her misspellings and send her thank you for a reply. I don’t
know if I should’ve said more, but as I mentioned earlier, I’m not exactly the
social butterfly around. I opened Theo’s text next.
Theo: Happy birthday Akshi! Your brother and I have something special
planned at eight tonight, feel free to invite others! I’ll see you in the
evening, Happy birthday.
I send him thanks as well and think
if there’s someone I’d like to invite. I’ve already invited Sawyer. Speaking of
whom, I open his text and smile even before I read it.
Sawyer: Happy birthday Indrakshi! Wish you have an amazing day! And how
about I make it just a little sweeter? See you at the café at eleven this
morning?
That’s so sweet of him! That’s my first thought after reading
his text. I sent him a reply;
Indrakhsi: Thank you! And sure, I’ll see you there.
I check the clock, it’s a quarter after
ten, so I still have forty-five minutes to read.
